Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) also known as Ubiquinone is an essential component of the energy-producing unit of every cell of the body
CoQ10 is a totally natural substance found in every cell of the human body, especially in the heart. The liver produces ubiquinone naturally. CoQ10 is also found in foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables, which have low levels, whilst raw meat or undercooked meat has potentially high levels.
It is an essential component of the mitochondria, the energy producing unit of the cells of the body. Research now indicates that CoQ10 is an important anitoxidant. As people age or suffer environmental stress the cells ability to produce CoQ10 diminishes. Thus supplementation may help restore more youthful levels of this vitamin-like substance. CoQ10 is an effective strong antioxidant and free radical scavenger. It prevents production of Oxygen free radicals through efficient controlled use of Oxygen and Hydrogen electrons, which prevents the rapid depletion of antioxidants in the body. In catalytic pathways it stimulates the manufacture of Adenosine TriPhosphate (ATP), which is the basic energy currency molecule of the cell. It is the fuel that electrifies the Mitochondria. CoQ10 is the precursor of ATP. Deficiency in CoQ10, usually caused by the body's inability to synthesize nutrients, may cause low blood levels and consequently poor heart function. Low levels appear more common in the older person.
The CoQ10 used is harvested from a unique alga source produced in Japan. It is removed without damaging the algae, which is then able to recover to enable continual re-harvesting.
